PDS regards Art, Music and Drama as essential subjects. These subjects directly affect the Social and Emotional Development of a child. We want no child coming through our school saying, “I can’t draw” or “I can’t sing” or “I can’t act.” None of those statements is true and each child at PDS will receive ample instruction and opportunities in these three essential areas. Although natural talent and ability will vary as will interest, it is very important for each child to give expression in these various arts. In some ways, these subjects afford a child with the greatest opportunities to “give back” what they have been given and it is unusual for a child not to wish to do so.
Our philosophy behind the teaching of Art, Music and Drama is to give children “the finest”. This generally means the time-honored masters. Our view is that it is best “to get the good in first”. In art this means the masters of the Renaissance, in music this means Mozart and in drama, this means Shakespeare.
