School Meals

Fresh Vegetarian Food

School lunches are a vital element at Philosophy Day School. Just as the mind and heart need good food, so does the body. The food we serve is freshly prepared, in-season, healthy and nutritious. It is also vegetarian. In addition to the day’s cooked dish, the tables are set with a selection of salads, cheeses, yogurt, dried fruits, fresh fruit, bread and spreads. The children may choose what they like to eat from all this. At break-time they receive a nutritious snack and a drink.

Serving Your Neighbor

Grace is said before and after the meal, and the children are taught not to begin eating until everyone at the table is served. They are also enjoined to serve each other rather than helping themselves, and to keep an eye on their neighbor’s plate to see when s/he needs to be passed something.
