The best way to begin the application process is with a visit to the school. Get to know us and see for yourself why our children love to come to school.

We conduct Open Houses most Wednesday mornings from 8:45-9:30am. Please call us to schedule a visit.  We ask that you RSVP before attending an Open House. 
 

APPLICATION FORM

Please complete the online application for admission and submit it with the non-refundable application fee of $55 per application ($35 for Early Steps candidates for Kindergarten-Grade 1 only ).  Receipt of this form begins the formal application process when a file is established for your child. Please note that to be eligible for our 2012-13 Nursery class, your child must be born before September 1st of 2009.

DEADLINES

The deadline for all grades is December 1st, but admissions at Philosophy Day School works on a rolling basis and we will accept applications as long as there may be an opening in class.  Please call the admissions office to learn of classes that are closed.

TOURS AND INTERVIEWS

Once we have received your application, we will contact you to arrange for your personal tour of Philosophy Day School and your interview with the Director of the Preschool or the Head of School.

The initial tour is intended to give you an overview of the facility and program.  If your child is admitted to Philosophy Day School, opportunity is provided for return visits.  If you prefer to tour the school before deciding whether to apply, please call about open houses which are held on specific dates.

For applicants to the preschool, playgroups will be held in December and January.  Appointments for playgroups can be made at the time of the parent interview.

Applicants for K-5th grade will be contacted to come in for a school visit after the parents initial interview.

EMERGENCY CLOSINGS

If Philosophy Day School is closed for a snow day or other emergencies, no admissions interviews will be held.  Please call to reschedule your appointment.  Notifications of school closings can be found on the Philosophy Day School website.

RECOMMENDATION LETTERS

Philosophy Day School does not require personal references.

Candidates for Grades 2 - 5 must have a Math and English teacher fill out the recommendation forms included with the application.

REQUEST FOR SCHOOL RECORDS

For Kindergarten - 5th Grade applicants, please ask your child’s current school to send a copy of his/her written reports and records to Philosophy Day School.  We also request that you allow us to contact the school for any additional information.  All reports and communications from the sending school are confidential.

TESTING

All 1st - 5th Grade applicants must be tested by the Educational Records Bureau.  The Bureau may be contacted at: 220 East 42nd Street, Suite 100, New York, NY 10017; (212) 672-9800.  It is the responsibility of the parents to request that the test results be sent directly to Philosophy Day School.
