Lower School Curriculum
Art

The walls of the school are alive with the art work of the children. Beauty is important for all, but is particularly vital in the life of children. The Lower School art program fosters intellectual, emotional and aesthetic development. A place for joyful exploration, the art studio nurtures open-mindedness and respect for differences. The program encourages students to develop an understanding of artistic ideas, such as line, shape, form, color, texture, pattern and composition through a variety of media, watercolor and tempera paints, printmaking, collage techniques, sculpture in papier maché, clay, assemblage, fabric and wood.

Students in K-5th grades meet twice a week with an arts specialist, building with increasing depth and complexity toward a greater understanding of art. The art specialist draws on subject matter close to the student.
