Black History Month
Black History Month
Throughout the month of February during morning assembly, the fourth grade presented short biographical sketches of African American heroes as a way to help make Black History month more real to students of all ages. From Dr. Carter Woodson, who launched Negro History Week in 1926 as an initiative to bring national attention to the contributions of black people throughout American history, to President Barack Obama, the 44th President of the United States and first African American to hold the office, the fourth grade presented a wide array of figures from across all walks of life. In this picture, a fourth grader is presenting on Shirley Chisholm, who in 1968 became the first black woman to serve in the United States Congress. Published on 03/16/11 |
